The Castle of Arnóia is a medieval castle in the civil parish of Arnóia, municipality of Celorico de Basto, the district of Braga. It is classified as a National Monument.

This Romanesque Castle, once located in Terra de Basto, is part of Europe’s castling movement that spanned the 10th and 12th centuries.
The watchtower (whose rooftop and set of battlements were restored in the twentieth century), the quadrangular tower, a single door, and the tank are the four defensive pieces that stand out on top of a hill.
Archaeological traces from the fort’s occupancy between the 14th and 16th centuries were discovered.
It is now time for the edifice to deteriorate, which in peacetime was only a symbol of administrative and lordly power that patronised the region.
The abandonment began in 1717, when the elites departed the little village of Basto, relocating the county seat to the parish of Britelo, where Celorico de Basto is now located.
The legacy of the little town of Basto lives along the branch path that connected the old road of Lixa to the main route of Amarante-Arco de Balhe, which is designated as the present-day settlement of Castelo.
The pillory, the hearing house, and the chemists are all indicative of the bustling roadway along which the village grew.
