This magnificent interactive cultural centre, which is located on Praça do Comércio, is the first location you should see if you’re visiting Lisbon for the first time; there is no greater introduction to the history of the Portuguese city than this marvellous interactive cultural centre.

There are six zones in the facility, which are ordered chronologically and each of which is dedicated to a specific time, or chapter in the city’s history. The facility is designed to be family-friendly. Each zone comes to life thanks to the creative use of multimedia tools, with certain places mimicking film sets in their design. The use of narration and conversation enhances the feeling of realism.

Even while models, paintings, and photographs all contribute to the creation of a picture of bygone Lisbon, the 4D film recreating the 1755 earthquake is what sends the city’s history crashing down into your experience. As the calamity develops, the room trembles and vibrates, and the entire scenario is shockingly realistic in its detail.
The hologram of the Marquês de Pombal (1699-1782), surrounded by the city fathers, looking over plans for restoration immediately after the calamity is equally amazing for the way critical events are brought to life.
