Pico’s volcanic island is dominated by a peak that rises to 2,350 metres in elevation. It is the second-largest island in the Azores, measuring 46 kilometres long and 16 kilometres wide.
The islands of Pico and Faial are divided by a 6 km long waterway. Divers will be able to see excellent underwater architecture as well as a variety of marine species: cetaceans and pelagic schools are the island’s pride and joy! They can be seen throughout the year. The best season to dive on Pico Island, however, is from June to September. Visibility is often perfect.
Dive spots are available to divers of all skill levels. Cachorro and Corais de Sao Caetano are ideal for novices or snorkelling. The most famous diving destinations are Condor, Princesa Alice, and Baixa Da Norte, however, they are exclusively for experienced divers.
One of the most popular activities on the island is diving with blue sharks, one of the fastest fish in the world, being one of the few places where it is possible to do so.
